The roaring Enns and the limestone mountains of the Reichenstein, Buchstein and Hochtor groups shape the landscape of the Gesäuse National Park. You can explore 12,118 hectares (29,944 acres) of remote scenery that’s home to rare plants, insects and arachnid species. Visiting the national park is an unforgettable experience.

In this Collection, we present two Tours in the Gesäuse National Park: the Rauchbodenweg and the hike to the Haindlkarhütte via the Gsengscharte. Both routes immerse you in the diverse natural world of this area, each in its unique way.

At the Weidendom adventure centre, you can explore the national park’s wild side in a variety of ways. In summer, exciting lectures and cinema programmes take place here, with a spectacular view of the north walls of the Hochtorgruppe. The National Park Pavilion is the starting point for many hikes and also houses a restaurant with a sun terrace and children's playground. You’ll also find the national park's information centre here, which has a small shop and exhibitions.

You can easily reach the Gesäuse National Park by public transport. Take the train to Kleinreifling or to Weißenbach-St. Gallen and continue by bus from there. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, there’s a direct REX connection from Vienna to Gstatterboden or Johnsbach twice a day. The Intercity or Eurocity also runs from Salzburg or via Leoben to Liezen. From there, a bus continues to Gesäuse. The Gesäuse shared taxi is also available (telephone: +43 3613 21 000 99).
